Democratic and leftist groups are strategizing on how to resist and prepare for the potential return of former President Trump to the White House. This includes blue state governors stockpiling abortion pills in anticipation of certain scenarios.
The Supreme Court recently ruled against a challenge to the FDA's regulatory approval process of the abortion drug Mifepristone. Despite this, some Democratic Party leaders are making preparations for a situation where the Trump administration might revoke the approval or criminalize the mailing of Mifepristone across state lines using the 1873 Comstock Act.
Reports indicate that several Democratic governors, including those of Washington, California, Massachusetts, New York, and Oregon, have secured stockpiles of Mifepristone to ensure continued access for women in their states in case of federal intervention. Washington's Governor, Jay Inslee, mentioned that the state has a sufficient supply of Mifepristone pills stored in a warehouse to last through a potential second Trump administration.
Inslee's team argues that even if the FDA were to rescind its approval of the pills, the existing stockpiles within states could still be utilized as long as they do not cross state lines. This proactive approach is part of a broader effort by leftist groups to prepare for legal battles on various fronts against a potential Trump administration.
One such group, Democracy Forward, has developed a comprehensive threat matrix covering issues like abortion, healthcare, climate, civil rights, environmental protections, immigration, and government 'weaponization.' They are actively seeking plaintiffs with legal standing to challenge potential policies in court.
While not openly expressing doubts about President Biden's administration, leftist groups are reportedly concerned about his approval ratings and trailing poll numbers compared to Trump in key states. This has fueled their efforts to be prepared for any future political shifts.
