Multiple Democratic governors are set to convene in Washington, DC, on Wednesday for a crucial meeting with President Joe Biden to seek clarity on his commitment to the ongoing campaign. The meeting was promptly arranged following a phone call among some of the nation's Democratic governors on Monday, during which concerns were raised regarding Biden's recent debate performance.
Sources familiar with the matter have disclosed that Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and California Governor Gavin Newsom, both of whom are being touted as potential replacements for the nominee, will be among those flying in for the meeting. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who serves as the chair of the Democratic Governors Association and played a key role in organizing the meeting, is also expected to attend. Additionally, New York Governor Kathy Hochul and several other governors will be present at the gathering.
While some governors will participate virtually, including New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who will remain in Pennsylvania to focus on collaborating with leaders from both Democratic and Republican parties to finalize a budget deal.
