After weeks of intraparty division over President Joe Biden's candidacy, delegates to the upcoming Democratic National Convention on Tuesday rallied rapidly and enthusiastically behind Vice President Kamala Harris as their party's new presidential candidate. The sudden shift in support has injected a renewed sense of excitement and unity among party members.

Following Biden's announcement that he was dropping his reelection bid and endorsing Harris, an Associated Press survey revealed that Harris has garnered enough delegate support to secure the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Donald Trump in the upcoming election. Across most states, Democratic officials have reported overwhelming backing for Harris within their convention delegations.

Delegates like Gabriella Cázares-Kelly from Arizona expressed their eagerness for Harris's candidacy, citing both personal and practical reasons. Cázares-Kelly, a member of the Tohono O’odham Nation and the Pima County recorder, emphasized the importance of Democratic unity ahead of the impending election deadlines.

For many, Harris's candidacy represents a significant milestone in diversity and representation. Cázares-Kelly highlighted the historic nature of Harris's candidacy as a Black woman and woman of color ascending to the highest office in the country, describing it as a moment of great excitement.

Michigan delegate David Coulter echoed the sentiment of swift party support for Harris, noting his surprise at how rapidly Democrats have rallied behind her. Despite initial expectations of a more prolonged process, Coulter commended Harris for effectively securing broad support within the party.

In addition to generating enthusiasm among party members, Harris has also proven to be a formidable fundraiser. Since Biden's endorsement, Harris has raised over $100 million, signaling a significant influx of financial support for the Democratic campaign.

As Harris continues her campaign efforts in key battleground states like Wisconsin, Democratic Party officials have reported a surge in donations and heightened energy within the party. The fundraising success in Wisconsin and other states reflects a growing momentum and unity essential for challenging Trump in the upcoming election.
