Demetri Mitchell discusses Roy Keane Hibs links as ex-Manchester United kid admits excitement

Demetri Mitchell is excited at the prospect of Roy Keane taking over at Hibs.

The former Manchester United kid made his first HIbs appearance since Shaun Maloney 's sacking in their 1-0 defeat to Livingston on Saturday after missing several weeks through injury.

Mitchell admits it was hard sitting on the sidelines as the Hibees form led to Maloney's dismissal, but the ex- Hearts loanee is adamant the squad will show their true worth.

Keane is one of many names linked with the job, with Henning Berg and Philip Cocu also reportedly speaking with Hibs about the role.

Mitchell knows all about Keane having come through the Manchester United youth system, with the Irishman coming in for chats with the youngsters.

And Mitchell said: "We've got a young squad to show whoever comes in what we're all about and make us play for places.

"When you play football you have to put your all into every game. You can't think, 'I should put more into this game because someone might be watching'. People are watching all the time so we just have to have a strong end to the season and build on it for next year.

"We've just got to keep working hard on the training field. If big names are linked, at the end of the day, it's down to individuals to put in performances on the pitch.

"I don't know him (Keane) personally or anything, but it's good to have big names linked with the club.

"You see him on TV and what he's like and he'd definitely bring a passion to the club if he got the job but we don't know who's coming in.

"When I was at Manchester United he came in for a few talks. It was about how to make the best of our career mentally and physically and motivating us to train hard each day.”

Mitchell has struggled with injuries and had hoped to be back for the Scottish Cup semi-final against Hearts but didn't manage it and he admits it's been tough.

He added: "I was aiming to get back for those Hearts games, it was disappointing not to be able to help the team in that respect.

"It is tough but it's part and parcel of being a footballer. Injuries happen, sometimes they're quick, sometimes they take longer than expected.

"You just have to keep working hard on the training field and look forward to getting back."
