Demario Davis fires up the New Orleans Saints before Seahawks kickoff

For nearly two decades, the New Orleans Saints have had a go-to pregame ritual of gathering around starting quarterback Drew Brees for a speech and team chant. It’s one of their longer-running traditions, but this time, Brees isn’t available — he’s still in Los Angeles, recovering from surgery on his injured throwing hand.

So someone else had to step in. And of course the player to do so was one of the team leaders: starting linebacker Demario Davis. Davis filled in admirably with his teammates gathered around him.

“Listen up man, it’s time to hunt!” Davis shouted, “When you look at your opponent today, look into his eyes and take his soul!”

Davis joined the Saints last year as a veteran free agent, having previously spent his NFL career with the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns. He was a big part of their success in 2018, immediately named a team captain and taking over the starting job at weakside linebacker, and returned to that role in his second season in New Orleans. If they’re going to defeat the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, it’ll be because he and his defense had a huge game.
