Demario Davis addresses the elephant in the Saints locker room

Derek Carr and Dennis Allen have said the New Orleans Saints have a chip on their shoulder. And when Demario Davis was asked about their comments, he agreed: “That may be the elephant in the room. We have underperformed.”

The idea of a new energy around the Saints is primarily a storyline and narrative for the offensive side of the ball. Klint Kubiak coming in as offensive coordinator has felt like a shot to the arm for a recently stagnant offense.

Hearing a defensive player speak about the chip on the team’s shoulder speaks to the team wide mindset. Does the Saints defense need to clean up a few things? Yes. They weren’t perfect, but they performed well. Still, Davis speaks about having that chip on their shoulder. The Saints have missed the playoffs for the last three years, and Davis delivered a message to the fan base acknowledging that they deserve better.

“We know we haven’t been good enough. We haven’t put something on the field that the city should be proud of.” This is just Demario Davis speaking, but it’s safe say he speaks for the whole locker room as a team leader.
