If you want the full picture of what's in and what's out, The Lyst Index is your go-to. Almost like a fashion trend cheat sheet, every three months the shopping app Lyst rounds up the most in-demand brands and hottest products based on shoppers' behavior and social media mentions. The first report of 2024 is out and offers a few eye-opening insights.
Namely, the Italian fashion house Miu Miu has just snagged the number one spot from big sister Prada. Sibling rivalry is real, y'all even in fashion. We're betting that the fact Miu Miu ignited the whole no pants thing helped—along with actress of the moment Sydney Sweeney who wore white sequinned pants/shorts to their fall 24 runway show. However, according to The Lyst Index, it was all thanks to the label's New Balance and Church's collaborations plus its upcycled denim collection. Prada meanwhile lands at number two partially due to its re-Nylon campaign featuring Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch. Miuccia Prada really is on a roll.
Coming in third is Loewe. That's due to its Decades of Confusion campaign starring Aubrey Plaza and Dan Levy along with the brand's Loewe Crafted World exhibition in Shanghai. Bottega Veneta is hot on its heels, followed by Saint Laurent, which enters the top five for the very first time fueled by demand for its trendy accessories. Moncler, Versace, Balenciaga, Valentino and Jacquemus round out the top 10.
Part of what drove searches and interest in Valentino was the news that Alessandro Michele would be taking the reins of the French fashion house. When the news broke, traffic went up a whopping 84 percent. While the announcement of Dries Van Noten's retirement spiked a 31 percent rise in searches for his eponymous brand.
Moving on to the hottest products category, Miu Miu once again reigns supreme. The label actually has three products on the list. Male shoppers searching for Miu Miu jumped 88 percent, which certainly helped. The number one spot belongs to the Miu Miu x New Balance 530 SL Sneaker which sold out pretty much instantly. Miu Miu's swim briefs and polo shirts also are in high demand.
Don't count Alaïa out as the brand's jeweled ballet flats landed at number four. Rick Owens' Prong Down Dress and Balenciaga's Rodeo bag benefitted from celebrity endorsements. But no one caused a surge in sales quite like Taylor Swift. After rocking Area's crystal-slit jeans to the Super Bowl, demand jumped 284 percent and probably not just because Swifties bought them in bulk.
