Dellavedova to sit out again, NBL return date set

Melbourne United star Matthew Dellavedova will sit out another round of NBL action but is targeting a return from his latest bout of concussion next week.

Dellavedova is "progressing well" in his recovery from the head knock he copped in round three and has cleared all medical tests, his club says.

But the NBA championship-winning guard will miss at least two more games as ladder leaders Melbourne (6-1) take on Tasmania (away) and Illawarra (home) in round five.

"He's got through individual workouts, done all the concussion tests and got tick-offs but hasn't got into contact yet," Melbourne coach Dean Vickerman said.

"So we think he's probably another week away."

Matthew Dellavedova has averaged 11.2 points per game in his five NBL outings this season.

Dellavedova's return is likely to come in United's home clash with the Perth Wildcats on November 6.

In his absence, nominated replacement player Rob Loe will remain in the Melbourne squad for Friday's road clash with Tasmania at MyState Bank Arena.

The JackJumpers (4-2) have surged into second spot, having recorded a strong away win over the Sydney Kings last week.

Jordon Crawford starred in that outing, draining four consecutive three-pointers at the start of the final period to tilt the contest Tasmania's way.

The American guard finished with a game-high 32 points and now presents a huge threat to a United back-court missing Dellavedova.

Shea Ili and Ian Clark will have the task of quelling Crawford's influence in Friday night's top-of-the-ladder contest.

"(The aim is) to get him off the three-point line and get him closer to the paint and make him have to make tougher shots there," Vickerman said.

"But he's quick and his pull-back is a little like Bryce (Cotton); you think he's going downhill but he pulls back and makes room for himself.

"I think we've done a good job scouting so far, so hopefully we can put it on the floor."

Tasmania are the only team to have beaten Melbourne so far this season.

The JackJumpers won 80-75 on United's home floor at John Cain Arena in round two, when Crawford (18 points) and back-court partner Milton Doyle (25) starred.
