A Deliveroo worker has been sacked for humiliating a woman who ordered some medication used to treat thrush in an online video. The man has has been widely condemned after he posted a shocking 30-second footage of him confronting the woman on social media.
In an Instagram story, the delivery man filmed himself handing over a Boots bag containing an antifungal cream, Canesten, which he had opened. Canesten is often used to treat vaginal infections, including thrush.
He then says to the camera: "Someone's got some problems downstairs, man."
The woman is then filmed leaving her student accommodation in Cambridge to collect the package when she is asked what the item is for. When she replies "It's medicine", the driver asks "Oh, what for? What do you use it for? Face?"
The woman says it is face cream, to which the man replies "It's face cream is it?". When the woman walks away he says: "Oh OK. Right, see ya" before looking at the camera and sniggering.
Deliveroo issued an apology on social media and said it would no longer work with the rider.
One user who posted a recording of the video to Twitter wrote: "This @Deliveroo driver decided to open this woman’s package, record her and mock her for its contents. Men continue to have the f****** audacity.
"Like she’s probably ordered it through Deliveroo because buying it in person would be embarrassing and he’s gone out of his way to make her uncomfortable AND post it online?????"
Deliveroo said in a statement on Twitter: "Rest assured we will be reaching out to the customer, investigating immediately and will no longer work with this rider."
