Overall, Deliveroo’s most popular dish in the world belongs to the Pita Chawarma Poulet, which is basically a shawarma kebab, from Mezzencore in Paris. Burritos from Chipotle in London and the Schiacciata Favolosa sandwich from All'Antico Vinaio in Firenze, Italy rounded up the top three.
The Chicken Sando from PICKL in Dubai, the Make Your Own Poke Bowl from Surfside Poké in Liege, Belgium, and Pad Thai from Edinburgh’s Ting Thai Caravan also made the top five of most-ordered dishes from Deliveroo's 185,000 restaurants and grocery partners.
Much closer to home and Manchester was sadly only able to make one entry on the UK’s top 30 list. Forget poke bowls, chicken sandwiches and burritos, because Manchester is seemingly mad about… bananas.
Coming 17th on the UK’s most ordered dishes on Deliveroo were five Fairtrade bananas from Morrisons in Manchester. So specific, so fruity, so sustainable.
The bunch of bananas beat out the likes of the southern fried chicken from Bournemouth’s Chicken & Blues and the very intriguing sounding Double Pepperoni and Spicy Honey pizza from Pizza Pilgrims in London.
Overall, Deliveroo said that poultry-based dishes accounted for nearly a quarter (23%) of this year’s top 100 list, while classic comfort foods - like pizza, burgers, burritos and kebabs - filled out 34 of the top spots on the list.
The delivery app also shared its most popular requests from Brits this year, with no onions and no pickles being the top two specifications. Some of Deliveroo's more unusual delivery requests included one person who asked for 'five mayonnaise tubs and ketchup all over 1 small chips'. Each to their own.
