Deliveroo motorbike rider 'attacked by masked yobs'

A Deliveroo rider claims a group of thugs tried to knock her off her motorbike near Sefton Park.

Suellen Lacerda said that she was surrounded by four masked yobs who 'attacked her' on Aigburth Drive. Suellen, 29, originally from Brazil, said that one of the attackers had a knife.

She said: "I had been to Lark Lane to pick up some food and was looping around Sefton Park on Aigburth Drive. I came to a pedestrian crossing so had to slow down a bit.

"I then noticed a gang of four masked boys approaching me. They tried to push me off my bike and then started kicking out at me.

"One of them had a knife but he did not use it. Because the engine was running I managed to accelerate away without coming off the bike."

Suellen told the ECHO that she reported the incident, which happened at around 6.30pm on March 2, to police. She said she was left 'shaken' by the ordeal but was not physically hurt.

She said: "As a woman I feel scared every time I go out on the bike to make a delivery. It is getting more and more dangerous out there for all the riders not just me."

Last year Suellen took part in a day of action when delivery riders protested after a spate of incidents. On December 21 around 50 riders congregated outside a number of landmark locations such as Anfield stadium, Stanley Road in Bootle and the new police headquarters in north Liverpool.

In January Merseyside Police stepped up efforts to clamp down on gangs targeting delivery riders in the city. Unmarked vehicles with plain clothed officers were used. Officers liaised with the Just Eat hub in Vauxhall to discuss “road safety concerns and crime prevention”.

Anyone with information about the incident on March 2 should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
