Delighted couple welcome first daughter into family in 138 years on special day

A delighted couple have welcomed a daughter into the family for the first time in a whopping 138 years. Carolyn and Andrew Clark, from Caledonia, in Michigan, America, welcomed their daughter Audrey on March 17, ending an almost 14-decade long hiatus on girls.

According to the Clarks' family records, a girl hasn't been born into the family since 1885, with Andrew admitting her gender came as a "huge surprise" to them all. When Andrew first told Carolyn about his family's struggle to conceive girls, she didn't believe him, saying every pregnancy has equal chance.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Carolyn said: "I'm like, 'Oh, it's a 50-50 chance every time. What do you mean?' He goes, 'No, legitimately, we have not had a girl in our direct line in over 100 years'.

"I asked his parents to confirm that information and they're like, 'Oh yeah, no, we haven't had a girl in our direct line.'

"He's had uncles and cousins that have had girls but in his lineage, there has not been a girl."

The couple's St Patrick's Day baby is even more special as she came after Carolyn tragically suffered a miscarriage in January 2021.

Carolyn added: "When we found out we were pregnant, we honestly didn't care if we were having a boy or girl at that point.

"We just were thankful to be pregnant and just praying for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

"It was just icing on the cake that it was a girl."

Wanting to surprise their family about her gender last September, the Clarks gathered everyone for a grand reveal.

Andrew said: "We kept it a secret to ourselves as well. So I just assumed it was going to be blue in the centre of the cookies and it'd be another boy in the lineage.

"I was shocked. I think I just stared at the centre of that cookie like, it's really pink. So it was a good surprise for us."

Carolyn added: "We're so happy that she's finally here and once again, that she's healthy and that everything went well with the delivery."
