NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Friday arrested Ratan Lal, a teacher of history at Hindu College, in connection with a social media post.
Police received a complaint on Tuesday night alleging that the associate professor had made a deliberate and malicious post on FB to outrage religious feelings.
The complainant claimed that the teacher had written offensive comments on a shivling, which claimed to have been found during the Gyanvapi Masjid survey in Varanasi.
A case was lodged at the cyber police station of the north district under Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of Indian Penal Code.
Following his arrest, AISA workers started a protest.
