Delhi’s air pollution can shorten lifespan by 12 years, warns lung specialist

While breathing polluted air can shorten the human lifespan by nearly 5.3 years, the air pollution crisis in Delhi is so severe that it can reduce human life by almost 12 years, says a leading lung specialist in the national capital.

Dr GC Khilnani is the chairman of the PSRI Institute of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine, and the former head of the pulmonary medicine wing at AIIMS.

He says the polluted air is especially dangerous for children below 7 years of age.

Watch what else he had to say on the air crisis.
