NEW DELHI: An air conditioner mechanic died and several others suffered injuries when the compressor of an AC exploded at a restaurant in southeast Delhi’s Tikona Park. In a second incident, a major fire broke out at a restaurant-cum-bar in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh on Thursday, though no one was injured in the incident.
According to the fire department, three fire tenders attended to the AC compressor blast case. "Due to the blast in the restaurant, 13 people had to be taken to hospital for injuries," said Atul Garg, director, Delhi Fire Service.
Esha Pandey, DCP (South-East) added, “As per information we were able to collect, it was an AC compressor that exploded in the restaurant.” Among the injured were Danish, Nadeem, Ajju, Saan Mohammad, Bijay and Ikra. “Nadeem died during treatment,” Pandey said. One of the investigators claimed that Nadeem was an AC mechanic. Police are probing where the blast took place during the refilling of the coolant in the AC.
In the second, DFS received an SOS call from a restaurant in Punjabi Bagh at 1.35pm and 12 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The cops said no one was in the restaurant at the time of the blaze. “The building has four floors and a parking lot. All the floors caught fire allegedly due to an electric short circuit,” a police officer said.
Police are verifying the fire safety clearance NOC of the restaurant cum bar. “It does have valid papers on record but that has to be verified,” the officer said. A video clip shows flames and smoke billowing from the restaurant.
