NEW DELHI: Delhi government officer Premoday Khakha accused of raping a minor girl, and his wife Seema Rani were arrested on Monday, police said.
While giving the information, DCP North District Sagar Singh Kalsi said: "We have arrested two accused in connection with this case. One of them is 51-year-old Premoday Khakha, Deputy Director in the Department of Women & Child Development of GNCT, and the second accused is his wife, 50-year-old Seema Rani".
"The accused was a local guardian of the victim after her father's death. The victim is undergoing treatment and is currently stable. We have arrested Seema Rani as she was also aware of the incident and she has been effective in getting the abortion done. The investigation is in progress", he said.
The officer has been booked for allegedly raping his friend's minor daughter several times and impregnating her, police had said on Sunday.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal while talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Delhi had also appealed to the Delhi Police to immediately arrest the accused officer.
Earlier, as per the order of Delhi CM, the officer was placed under suspension with immediate effect.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier in the day ordered the Chief Secretary to suspend of the officer.
The order issued by the Chief Secretary stated that a disciplinary proceeding against Khakha working in the Women and Child Development department on the post of assistant director was contemplated.
"...therefore in exercise of the powers conferred by sub rule (1) of Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, Premoday Khakha, Assistant Director is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect," stated the order.
