Delhi Excise Policy: Manish Sisodia's ED custody extended by five days

Delhi court extends Manish Sisodia's ED custody by five days

New Delhi: The Rouse Avenue court on Friday extended the ED custody of former Delhi Dy CM Manish Sisodia by five days till 22 March in a money laundering case regarding  alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy of GNCTD.

The ED had requested 7 days further custody of Manish Sisodia.

However Sisodia's lawyer submitted in court, "If, after investigating the case for seven months, they seek further custody, they have to show what have they got."

"I am opposing the extension of custody because the Enforcement Directorate is carrying out the CBI's investigation. ED can only probe proceeds of crime, not the crime," Sisodia's lawyer argued, adding that it was the CBI's job.

"ED is seeking extension in custody for confrontation, even in that case, they don't need custody," he said.

Manish Sisodia was arrested by the ED on March 9 in the Tihar jail, where he was lodged in a CBI case of alleged corruption in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2021–22. Earlier, Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26. (with Agency inputs)
