Delhi 2024: Will Congress’s Kanhaiya defeat ‘Rambhakt’ Manoj Tiwari?

The roads and bylanes of North-East Delhi have transformed into election campaign sites with a high-pitch battle unravelling between INDIA bloc candidate and Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar and BJP’s two-time sitting MP Manoj Tiwari.

Kumar, arguably the most controversial JNU student body president, forayed into electoral politics with the Communist Party of India in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. He contested from Bihar’s Begusarai but lost to BJP’s Giriraj Singh. He then joined the Congress and has risen to be a prominent face of the grand old party. So what is Kumar’s poll strategy and how is it unfolding on the ground?

Newslaundry trailed Kumar’s campaign and spoke to the Congress workers and those in its social media cell at the party’s election office in Maujpur about their election strategy and the politician’s distinct work style. We also spoke to the locals about the big poll issues in the area, who said it lacks basic facilities of roads and drains, and records excessive waterlogging during the monsoon.

Kumar’s election office, where more than 200 party workers are deployed, has issued a number to receive complaints about the area. He told Newslaundry that they have received more than 6,500 calls about issues in various localities.
