Dele Alli sent 'perfect' Everton and Frank Lampard message by former manager

Dele Alli playing for Everton under Frank Lampard could be 'the perfect recipe' for the midfielder to rediscover his best form, according to one of his former managers.

Karl Robinson coached Alli at MK Dons, where he scored 16 league goals in his final season, prompting a move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2015, aged 20.

The rising star made an immediate impact upon taking the step up to the Premier League.

Going on to score a career-high 18 league goals and helping guide Spurs to the Champions League final, his influence from midfield has since dipped in recent seasons.

However, Robinson believes Alli’s move to Goodison has come at an ideal time and has backed his former player to thrive under the tutelage of new Everton boss Lampard.

“I think sometimes you can be in one place for so long and sometimes the harder you try, the harder it becomes,” Robinson told talkSPORT .

“Sometimes you just need to take a break from that actual situation. This move going to Everton could be the perfect recipe to find his form.

“He lives and breathes confidence, I think every footballer does, and it’s just that little bit of spark he’s going to need.”

Robinson continued: “There’s so much speculation and people want to criticise. It’s so easy within the modern industry to point fingers at people for different attitudes and hair-dos and so on and so forth.

“Everyone thinks that’s the reason you are playing poorly. Sometimes it is just that simple that you get on with a manager and they get the best out of you.

“Frank is, arguably, the best goalscoring midfielder in the Premier League we’ve seen, so he knows how to coach him.”

Since Mauricio Pochettino’s departure in November 2019, Alli has played under four different managers at Tottenham.

And Robinson, believes the England international's struggles have been a consequence of these managerial changes and subsequent shifts in formation.

“The big thing for him is he will be playing for a manager who he knows how he plays because that is what his game is all about,” Robinson said.

“It’s playing in a position that suits him as well. I’ve watched a lot of him over the last two or three years and there’s been so many formation changes and manager changes.

“None of those formation changes have been wrong as they’ve helped managers at previous football clubs and help today.

“Maybe he doesn’t fit into that or the plans. It’s much better the move is permanent because he can get ready.

“It’s a perfect football club for him.”
