Dele Alli is being pushed towards the exit door after being dumped from the Tottenham squad.
Tottenham midfielder Dele, 25, has been a target for Newcastle in this window and Spurs could be open to offers either on loan or on a permanent basis.
Spurs boss Antonio Conte signalled his intentions by axing Alli from his match day squad to face Chelsea even though he has been hit by injuries and had to name an unfamiliar line-up.
That must be seen as a clear indication that Conte wants to clear the decks to try and bring in new faces in January.
Alli has only made ten Premier League appearances this season and, despite starting the season under former boss Nuno Espirito Santo, has gradually fallen down the pecking order.
England star Alli is out of contract until 2024 and it would not be the first time that he has been linked with moves away as Paris Saint Germain have been keen in the past.
It is still far from certain that anything will be done in January and will depend on whether they can find a suitable offer.
Newcastle are also interested in Manchester United ’s Jesse Lingard and Alli could be a back up if they do not land Lingard.
Tottenham are also keen to offload Tanguy Ndombele with Paris Saint-Germain interested.
That could open the door for former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum to return to the Premier League as he is frustrated at a lack of game time at Paris Saint Germain.
Tottenham are looking to strengthen with Conte insisting they need to bolster the squad and Wijnaldum is one solution but they also want a defender.
Giovani Lo Celso is also not in the squad despite declaring himself fit for the encounter.
