Passengers flying with budget airlines at South Korea's Incheon International Airport are facing delays in check-in and boarding procedures as a result of internal system failures, according to an airport spokesperson.
The affected airlines include Air Premia, Jeju Air, Eastar Jet, Jetstar, and Hong Kong Express. These airlines are currently experiencing difficulties in issuing boarding passes at check-in counters and during the boarding process.
The root cause of the delays has been attributed to the computer systems utilized by the airlines, which are based on Microsoft's cloud service. In contrast, Incheon International Airport itself does not rely on the Microsoft system and is therefore not encountering any disruptions in its operations, as confirmed by the airport spokesperson.
On the other hand, the South Korean flag carrier Korean Air has stated that it utilizes Amazon Web Services (AWS) for its operations and has not been impacted by the system outage affecting the other airlines.
Passengers are advised to stay informed about the situation and to contact their respective airlines for updates on their flights. In the meantime, airport authorities are working diligently to resolve the internal system failures and minimize the impact on travelers.
