Plans to allow humanitarian goods to enter Gaza through the Erez crossing have faced a delay, according to an Israeli official. The delay is due to ongoing logistical preparations to ensure the checkpoint can handle the influx of aid.
Reports from a source team stationed along the border between Israel and northern Gaza indicated that gunfire and explosions were heard from an area near the crossing on Saturday.
A spokesperson for COGAT, the Israeli military agency responsible for coordinating humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza, stated that the opening of the crossing will be announced once a specific date is confirmed.
Israel recently approved the reopening of the Erez crossing, marking the first time it has been operational since the October 7 Hamas attacks. This decision followed a call from US President Joe Biden to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urging Israel to facilitate the entry of aid into Gaza.
