Dejphon Chansiri's bizarre rant and Daniel Farke reference in Xisco Munoz's Owls unveiling

Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri has hit out at former Leeds United star Carlton Palmer over comments made about the appointment of new Owls boss Xisco Munoz.

The Spaniard was unveiled at a press conference following Darren Moore's exit, but it was overshadowed by Chansiri's response to comments made by Palmer over the appointment. When asked by a television interviewer about the recent departure of Moore, Chansiri went into a long monologue that centred around ex-Owls midfielder Palmer. The outspoken former England international appeared to criticise the appointment of Munoz on social media.

Writing on Twitter, Palmer said: "Did not expect anything else; no manager worth his salt would work for Chansiri. Leeds get Daniel (Farke) and will get promoted. Let’s see I have an open mind but certainly not convinced or surprised."

Palmer continued to post a number of further tweets criticising the chairman and that led to Chansiri responding in remarkable fashion at the press conference. He said: "Carlton Palmer came out and said something. I don't understand why you say you love this club but you try to damage it. When we've done well in the past I've never seen him come out. I think he just wants to get attention.

"If he thinks he tells the true story I invite him to talk to me face-to-face in front of fans and media. Don't hide behind social media."

It was part of a long speech that centred around Palmer. And, unsurprisingly, Palmer responded pretty swiftly, tweeting: "I will await his call. His secretary Lyndsey has my number."

As for the new man at the helm, he was understandably keen to move the story on and quickly turned attention to the job in hand.

He said: "We need a new era. I don't want to speak about three weeks ago. We are a massive club with massive fanbase. Everyone knows what happened before. Now it's about what we want, what we need. This is our focus."

The Spaniard takes charge of his first game on Saturday when the Owls travel to York City for their opening pre-season friendly.
