Colorado has been playing major college football for 122 years, but Buffaloes superfan Peggy Coppom has only been around for 98 of them.
Coppom is an institution in the Centennial State, having only missed a few home games over the past six decades, many of which she attended with her late twin sister Betty Hoover, who died in 2020. She’s been with Colorado in good times and bad, watching the team move from the Big Eight to the Big 12 to the Pac-12 back to the Big 12.
Since becoming the Buffaloes’ coach in Dec. 2022, Deion Sanders has called upon Coppom on multiple occasions. She gave a ceremonial first kick at Colorado’s spring game, and on Friday, she danced with Sanders at the program’s annual kickoff luncheon.

“Peggy balled. Peggy was the MVP of the game,” Sanders said of her spring game performance in April. “She was quick. The first step was unbelievable. She was very physical when she grabbed me and made sure I held her arm.”
Sanders has ruffled some feathers in Boulder and beyond, and may have an arduous first year ahead of him, but with Coppom in its corner, Colorado seems set for the immediate future.
