Definitely Don't Call It a Comeback Because Corduroy Has Never Really Gone Anywhere

Sadly, corduroy sometimes gets a bad rap. It's often associated with the 70s in a negative way akin to leisure suits and wide ties. Truth is, the textured fabric defies decades. It hasn't really faded away because it's surprisingly versatile and ultimately cool. Need proof? Keep reading.

A quick survey of online retailers leaves no doubt. From faster fashion destinations like Zara and Mango to designer creations, corduroy is still trending. Obviously, it's most popular in pant form. There are some great pairs out there, too. Think flares, straight legs and even printed trousers. Both midi and maxi skirts are also on deck. We even managed to track down a cool skirt suit. Shirtdresses are another stellar option.

Then you have your blazers and coats. You don't have to stick with traditional hues, though. Ganni's purple jacket brings a delightful pop of color to any outfit. While Moncler's quilted down jacket is the most brilliant shade of aqua. Opt for Chloe's vest if you're going for a three-piece suit silhouette.

Next up we have corduroy shirts. Frequently outsize, they're usually worn as outerwear. See Dries Van Noten's version styled on the runway with matching pants and a see-through turtleneck. Although we want you to widen your horizons. Zara's pink pick looks great tucked into jeans, with or without the buttons being buttoned. Mango actually has a cozy sweatshirt in a neutral-esque moss color. Corresponding pants optional.

If you're a newbie or it's been some time since you've sported the misunderstood material, stick with one piece per outfit. If, like us, it's always been a vital part of your wardrobe, go ahead and go all out. You can even layer a coordinating coat on top of your complementary ensemble. Just stick with leather boots or canvas sneakers on the bottom.
