A thumping Matt Short century has secured Victoria a bonus-point win over Queensland at the MCG, as the One-Day Cup returned with a one-sided contest.
The Vics needed just 31 overs to reach 1-205 and overhaul Queensland's modest target of 203.
The result concluded a dreadful visit to Melbourne for the Queenslanders, who slipped to a hefty 164-run Sheffield Shield loss against the same opponent on Sunday.
The win lifts Victoria from fifth into a share of second spot alongside South Australia, but the result leaves Queensland's hopes hanging by a thread.
Elevated to opener, middle-order bat Short plundered 108 not out off 94 balls for his maiden One-Day Cup ton that included 14 fours and a six. He needed just 87 deliveries to get to the three-figure mark.
At the other end, newly appointed Vics' One-Day Cup captain Marcus Harris followed up his Shield ton with a confident 78 not out off 85 balls.
The pair shared a hugely entertaining 194-run partnership under lights off just 29.1 overs.
The only wicket to fall was James Seymour (3), who was trapped lbw to conclude a bizarre opening over from second-gamer Will Prestwidge that featured eight wides.
Batting seemed much harder earlier in the day for Queensland, who slipped to 6-56 before Sam Heazlett salvaged some pride.
Opener Heazlett was the last wicket to fall for 100 having reached his third competition century the previous ball, as Queensland were bowled out for 202 off 46.2 overs.
Prestwidge was the only other Queenslander to make an impression with the bat, scoring a neat 37 in a 91-run stand for the seventh wicket with Heazlett.
Fergus O'Neill ripped the heart out of the visitors' top-order, claiming 4-22 in his allotted 10 overs at the top of the innings.
Allrounder Will Sutherland (2-32) also claimed two top-order scalps while Sri Lankan-born leg-spinner Ruwantha Kellapotha turned in a promising showing on his One-Day Cup debut returning 2-40, including the wicket of Heazlett.
