Defensive blow means Man City may have to repeat Real Madrid solution for Leeds United clash

Leeds United will be seeking to cause an upset against Manchester City on Saturday, as they look to pick up precious points in the battle to avoid 18th place. However, the game matters just as much to City, as Pep Guardiola's side know that any slip-up could see Liverpool move into the driving seat in a tightly fought title race.

City come to Elland Road in between their two-legged Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid, having defeated the Spanish side 4-3 at the Etihad in mid-week. As such, Guardiola will have to decide which of his first-choice XI he wants to risk and which he wants to rest, knowing that a one-goal lead could easily be overturned at the Bernabaeu.

He gave an injury update during Friday afternoon's pre press-conference.

Kyle Walker

Walker has been missing for several weeks with an ankle injury and Guardiola confirmed he will miss the trip to Elland Road, but was unsure if the England man is out for the rest of the season.

"I don't know right now. I'm not worried at all, he's injured unfortunately for all of us and him especially. I must focus on the rest of the players."

John Stones

Stones was a doubt heading into the Madrid game but started at right-back. However, he was forced off midway through the first half and Guardiola confirmed he would miss the match at Elland Road, saying: "For tomorrow he's out and we'll see for Wednesday."

This means that Guardiola will have to choose whether to play Joao Cancelo at right-back, knowing that he is likely the only option to play there against Madrid on Wednesday. If he decides not to risk the Portuguese, he may have to repeat his solution from mid-week, which was to field Fernandinho at right back. This brought an assist for the Brazilian but he was badly caught out by the pace of Vinicius Jr for the second Madrid goal.
