Defender with £40m release clause 'contacted' by Liverpool makes fresh transfer claim

Liverpool-linked defender Jeremiah St Juste has revealed that he has been subject to interest from the Premier League.

The 26-year-old Dutchman has been touted with a move to Anfield in recent weeks after suggestions the Reds made contact with his representatives.

St Juste's recent performance for Sporting Lisbon against Arsenal in the Europa League led him to reveal he has been courted by teams from the English top-flight.

His displays in Portugal have seen him come into contention to make his senior international bow with the Netherlands after he staked a claim to be in Ronald Koeman's side.

It has been reported that St Juste has a €45m (£40m) release clause as the Reds prepare for a summer upheaval following a disappointing Premier League campaign.

Speaking to Voetbal Zone, the former Mainz defender revealed he has been attracting suitors from the "top of the Premier League".

St Juste said: "Because I did not play everything at the beginning of this season, I briefly considered a loan to the Eredivisie last winter.

"Two top Dutch clubs inquired about me. I briefly thought about it because I still feel that in Eredivisie you qualify for Oranje quicker.

"Meanwhile, I am very happy I stayed here. Then you see how quickly it can go. After the game against Arsenal, there was interest from the top of the Premier League.

"It is up to me to continue this form and show the national coach that I really want it. In the end, of course, the choice is up to him."
