Former Hibs defender who helped Real Madrid star Karim Benzema to France U17 glory is Clyde's latest signing

Clyde have announced the signing of French defender Steven Thicot - a player who once captained a France U17 side containing Real Madrid star Karim Benzema to European Championship glory.

The 35-year-old has become the Bully Wee's third new signing for next season following the arrivals of Ray Grant last week and Conner Duthie earlier today.

Thicot spent three years at Hibernian between 2008-11 and is now back in Scotland in a bid to guide Clyde into the promotion mix in League One next season.

The centre-back, who came through the youth academy at Nantes, skippered France's under-17s to glory at the 2004 UEFA European Championship.

He was part of a side which contained current Marseille midfielder Samir Nasri and Real Madrid ace Benzema, who will contest the UEFA Champions League final against Liverpool at the end of the month

And Clyde boss Danny Lennon is delighted to see the player put pen to paper after a trail period with the clib.

Lennon told the Clyde website: "I liked Steven when he played for Hibs for a few seasons.

"We’ve had him training with us for weeks now to have a good look at him. He is incredibly fit and has a good physical presence about him.

"He has tremendous technical ability for a big centre half and will suit our passing game well.

"He is a positive character and will have a positive influence on the squad next season. We’re really looking forward to seeing him in a Clyde jersey."
