Defender may have played last Nottingham Forest game as 'chance' of January transfer emerges

Nottingham Forest defender Tobias Figueiredo has been linked with a loan move in the final days of the January transfer window.

The centre-back has the “chance” of returning to his Portuguese homeland for the rest of the season, according to A Bola.

A switch to Vitoria is said to be a possibility, with an option for the deal to be made permanent in the summer, when Figueiredo’s Reds contract is set to run out.

Forest added Steve Cook to their central defensive options at the start of this month, with the former Bournemouth man joining Scott McKenna and the injured Joe Worrall as first-choice in a back three.

Even with Worrall out of action due to broken ribs, Figueiredo has still not got his chance as boss Steve Cooper has opted to either drop midfielder Ryan Yates into the defence or go with a four-man rearguard.

The last time Figueiredo pulled on the Garibaldi was in the 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough on Boxing Day, when he was substituted midway through. He has made a total of 19 appearances this term.

Worrall is expected to be out of action for six weeks, but the Reds do have Loic Mbe Soh and Rodrigo Ely making their way back from their own spells on the sidelines.

Figueiredo made the switch to the City Ground in January 2018, first on loan and then making it permanent that summer, in a deal thought to be worth about 2m euros from Sporting.

Head coach Cooper has said he will not stand in the way of players who want to leave before the window closes on Monday to get regular game time elsewhere.

And club record signing Joao Carvalho’s move to Olympiacos is expected to be confirmed imminently.
