Deep Water: Everything you need to know about ITV's thrilling new drama

If a summer of back-to-back Love Island has left you craving some more substantial viewing, ITV’s new drama Deep Water could be the answer.

Adapted from the Windermere novels by Paula Daly, the new thriller is set in the Lake District and follows the lives of three women as they struggle to do the right thing for their families, facing difficult decisions that could have major consequences.

With its female-led cast and striking backdrops, it has already been touted as a British successor to Big Little Lies.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new show.

What is Deep Water about?

New series: The drama is set in the Lake District (ITV)

According to ITV, the series “follows the lives of three complex and vibrant women, each struggling to keep their heads above very deep water” as they “face tough choices with difficult, and often messy repercussions.”

Mother of three Lisa is balancing hectic family life with running a business, while Roz is a once-successful physiotherapist whose practice is now under threat due to her partner’s gambling debts. In a bid to clear those debts, she finds herself faced with a choice that could change her life.

Rosalind Eleazar as Kate and Anna Friel as Lisa (ITV)

Rounding out the trio is the outwardly happy and successful Kate who seems to have it all - but she could be too good to be true.

Written by BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Anna Symon, who has recently worked on Indian Summers and Mrs Wilson, ITV has described Deep Water as “an exploration of what it means to be a ‘perfect’ mother.”

Who is in the cast?

Sinead Keenan plays Ros (ITV)

Marcella’s Anna Friel stars as Lisa, with Little Boy Blue star Sinead Keenan cast as Ros. They are joined by Rosalind Eleazar as Kate and Faye Marsay as DC Joanne Aspinal, a local police officer who is Ros’s neighbour.

When is Deep Water on TV?

The six-part drama kicks off on August 14 at 9pm on ITV and will then continue to air on Wednesdays. If you can’t bear to wait for weekly episodes, though, the rest of the series will be available to stream on the ITV Hub once the first episode has aired.
