Deebo Samuel Offers Blunt Quote About 49ers’ Chances to Make Super Bowl Again

The San Francisco 49ers have taken four trips to the NFC championship game in the last five years but still have no Super Bowl ring to show for it.

San Francisco receiver Deebo Samuel, who has experienced two Super Bowl losses and two NFC championship losses since entering the league in 2019, addressed his team’s chances to make another deep postseason run.

“The two [Super Bowls] that we’ve been in, just falling short is so heartbreaking, man,” Samuel said Tuesday on the Up & Adams Show. “… People just say, ‘There’s always next year,’ but I heard that in 2019 and it took four more years to get where we’re at.

“It’s not [as] easy as people think to get to the Super Bowl. It takes everything.”

The 49ers lost both Super Bowl appearances to the Kansas City Chiefs, falling 31–20 in 2020 and 25–22 in February.

There are a few questions to answer this offseason, specifically receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s contract. But the 49ers are set to mostly run it back next year with quarterback Brock Purdy and their long list of offensive weapons.

Samuel still believes San Francisco has what it takes to return to football’s biggest stage next year.

"If you look at it, we still got 90-95 percent of the guys that's coming back," Samuel said to host Kay Adams. “I got all the faith in the world in this team that we have. It's cool and all four out of five NFC championships, making two Super Bowls, that's all cool, fine, and dandy, but it's not cool when you're not the team at the end of the year holding the Lombardi.

“Everybody on this team has one goal, and I hope we set out and we get it done."
