It sounds like there’s encouraging news on the Deebo Samuel front after the star wide receiver started following the San Francisco 49ers on Instagram again.
That’s a change of pace for Samuel, who unfollowed the 49ers and cleaned his social media of all references to the team earlier this offseason. Samuel, who is reportedly unhappy about his usage on offense, requested to be traded last month.
As noted by Pro Football Talk, Samuel also “liked an Instagram post about 49ers General Manager John Lynch saying that the issues between the team and Samuel can be worked out.”
This certainly sounds encouraging for the two sides, although it’s certainly not a guarantee that Samuel will ultimately sign a long-term deal with the 49ers. He’s slated to become a free agent in 2022.

Samuel had a breakout season with the 49ers in 2021, where he earned First-Team All-Pro honors. Samuel had 77 catches for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns. He added 59 rushes for 365 yards and eight scores.
Samuel is entering the final year of his rookie deal, where he’s slated to make $3.986 million in base salary. With big-name wideouts like Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill getting lucrative contract extensions, Samuel certainly appears to be next.
