It’s been months since the Philadelphia Eagles smacked around the San Francisco 49ers in last year’s NFC title game. With the 2023 season around the corner, you’d think San Francisco would let bygones be bygones and keep its eye on a new pursuit of the Lombardi Trophy.
You’d think that, but you’d be so, so wrong.
During a recent interview on The Zach Gelb Show on CBS Sports Radio, 49ers superstar Deebo Samuel hopped on to talk about the 49ers’ 2023 prospects. At one point, the conversation harmlessly shifted to sour grapes comments Samuel made about the Eagles in February — among them, calling cornerback James Bradberry “trash.” It was a fair line of questioning, with Philadelphia and San Francisco reigniting a rivalry in December as presumable NFC heavyweights.
Except, there wasn’t much of a conversation because Samuel shut down and refused to say anything of substance about Philadelphia. Samuel eventually just hung up as he continued to get prodded with some softball questions.
It’s a terrible look for one of the bigger-name players on one of the NFL’s best teams:

I can appreciate that Samuel probably wants to let his play do the talking at this point. But then… why talk trash about the Eagles in the first place if you don’t want to stand by your words in public months later? Those comments don’t just go away — the internet is forever!
Everything about this screams of yet another situation where the inferior 49ers still think they were the better team last January because their overmatched third-string quarterback hurt his elbow.
