Dedicated West Lothian volunteer recognised as Coronation Champion

A dedicated West Lothian volunteer has been chosen as one of the UK’s Coronation Champions.

Nancy Baker, from Winchburgh, is a long-serving volunteer with Carers of West Lothian (CoWL) and is one of 500 people across the country to have been recognised by Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort as part of the official Coronation celebrations in conjunction with the Royal Voluntary Service.

The Coronation Champions Awards invited people across the UK to nominate local volunteering heroes for going the extra mile with judges having the difficult decision of whittling it down to 500.

Nancy impressed judges with her dedication to her volunteering role within CoWL, where she facilitates peer support and social groups as well as much, much more.

Alison Wright CEO of CoWL said: “We couldn’t do what we do without the help of our wonderful volunteers and Nancy is a great example of this.

“We want to say a huge thank you to her and are so proud that her hard work, commitment, and loyalty is being recognised in this way. We know that Nancy really enjoys supporting other unpaid carers in her volunteering here at Carers of West Lothian.

“We hope that by seeing the contribution of volunteers recognised in this way, others may step forward to help third sector organisations working in our West Lothian community.”

Nancy and has been invited to the Garden Party at Holyrood Palace and has also received a specially designed, official Coronation Champions pin and a certificate signed by Their Majesties.

A delighted Nancy commented: “I enjoy every minute of my volunteering role and I believe that 12 years ago I found my calling. There is no where I would rather volunteer.

“I feel amazed that I have been nominated for this award especially as this is something that I enjoy doing. I cannot believe that I got down to the last 500 from all over the UK.

“It is truly humbling and when my pin badge and certificate came I actually felt like crying with happiness I am so overwhelmed.

“I would like to say a thank you to all of CoWL as they are amazing too in supporting me like they do.”
