As wildfires continue to devastate Los Angeles, causing widespread destruction and displacing tens of thousands of residents, a group of dedicated volunteers is ensuring that pets are not forgotten in the midst of the chaos. These wildfires have not only impacted humans but also left many animals homeless, prompting a coordinated effort to provide them with safe shelter.
Julie Castle, the CEO of Best Friends Animal Society, highlighted the urgent need to assist animals affected by the wildfires. She explained that typically, animals are either surrendered by their owners or require temporary housing during such crises. To address this, the organization has been relocating animals from Los Angeles shelters and the Pasadena Humane Society to free up space for incoming animals, such as strays or those in need of temporary care.

Since the wildfires began, approximately 600 animals have been under the care of the Best Friends Animal Society. To ensure the safety and well-being of these animals, many of them are being flown to a sanctuary owned by the organization in Utah. Castle described the scene as heartwarming, with nearly 100 animals being transported at once, showcasing the community's unity and support.
Castle emphasized the remarkable display of humanity and solidarity during these challenging times. She expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from the community, including assistance at the airport and numerous foster homes opening their doors to animals in need. The collaborative efforts of volunteers, residents, and organizations reflect the best of Angelinos and Americans coming together to help those affected by the wildfires.
