Declan Rice says he is gunning for Jamie Carragher’s job as a pundit when he retires.
The 23-year-old West Ham midfielder is still way off considering his career after playing, but he has already set his sights on one day taking Carragher’s seat in the Sky Sports studios.
Carragher has previously tipped Rice to one day replace him on Monday Night Football, saying last year: “There’s one player who stands out for me, who’s very young, who’s got something about him with personality, it’s Declan Rice.
“I don’t know if he’d be a good pundit, but he’s quite bubbly on the England social media and he’s on Twitter having a laugh and a joke.”
Rice, a confident speaker who runs his own social media profiles, was asked about his plans after retirement during his appearance on Gary Neville’s the Overlap podcast.
And he outlined his desire to work as a pundit and joked: “Carragher is a goner! He’s gone, I’m coming for him!
“I would love to do punditry when I am older.
“I watch you [Neville] and Carra on Monday nights and Friday nights. It is great insight.
“Punditry is something I would love to get into when I am older, a bit of media.”
