Declan Rice makes Anfield 'sick' claim after Liverpool beat West Ham

Declan Rice has claimed West Ham’s failure to pick up a point against Liverpool has left him feeling 'sick' and believes his side are showing that they can mix it with the 'big boys'.

Darwin Nunez scored the only goal of the game as Liverpool edged a 1-0 win against the Hammers at Anfield on Wednesday night. The goal came after 22 minutes.

However, that only tells half the story as Jarrod Bowen failed to convert the penalty he won just before half-time. The forward was denied by Alisson Becker.

While in the second-half, the Hammers missed a glorious opportunity to claim a point when a crucial block from James Milner prevented Tomas Soucek equalising with three minutes to play. And speaking post-match, England international Rice couldn't believe his side weren't heading back to the capital with a point.

"I feel sick, I honestly feel sick. We know it is a tough place to come, you have to show grit, heart and desire,” he told the BBC.

"There was enough in the second half to nick something from the game. We are showing signs we can compete with the big boys.

"To show the courage we did in the second half, dominating the ball and creating chances, I'm proud of everyone. I'm just gutted we couldn't get something from the game like we should have."
