Declan Rice: John Terry lays down £100m challenge for West Ham to stave off Chelsea transfer interest in star

John Terry believes West Ham will have to spend over £100million on players to convince Declan Rice that his future remains at West Ham - not Chelsea.

The midfielder has continued to develop into one of the world’s leading midfielders and the Blues are thought to be keeping an eye on his progress with just over two years left on his contract.

West Ham have long maintained that it would take a mammoth bid to make them consider a sale but Chelsea legend Terry is adamant that the player would want to come back to Stamford Bridge, having been released as a teenager.

“I’ll get in trouble here,” Terry laughed as he analysed Rice’s situation on Stadium Astro, adding that Rice would be an “incredible” signing.

“Dec loves Chelsea, I think everyone knows that. The rejection he had from Chelsea has really helped his career, actually.

“What he’s done at West Ham is pretty much incredible and we saw the other day, even in the cup [against Kidderminster] when he comes on and scores, and grabs the game by the scruff of the neck.

“He’s given everything to West Ham and, for me looking in from the outside, unless West Ham go and make a big statement in the summer and go and spend £100million-plus to say, ‘We want to keep Dec and bring in players like you’ - then I think he’s got a decision to make.

“I think if West Ham spend a lot of money and bring in top players, then I think it’s difficult for him to walk away.”
