Declan Rice a doubt for France World Cup quarter-final after missing England training due to illness

Declan Rice is a doubt for Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final with France after he sat out England training on Wednesday due to illness.

The West Ham midfielder has been a key player for England in Qatar but Gareth Southgate is now sweating over his availability.

Rice was not present as the England squad trained on Wednesday morning and his absence would be a major blow for England.

The 23-year-old has formed new three-man midfield with Bellingham and Jordan Henderson that is flourishing in Qatar.

Callum Wilson also missed session on Wednesday due to a minor injury.

Raheem Sterling and Ben White remained absent due to personal reasons. White is expected to miss the rest of the tournament and it is unclear whether Sterling will return to the squad.

The Chelsea forward has returned to the UK after a break-in at his family home in Surrey. Surrey Police confirmed on Wednesday that two people have been arrested in connection with the burglary.

The FA insist Sterling is under no pressure to return and say they will give him as much time as he needs.

Harry Maguire and Kyle Walker are scheduled to meet the media after training on Wednesday.
