Declan John injury update & Lloyd Isgrove absence for Bolton Wanderers vs Crewe Alex explained

Bolton Wanderers are waiting to hear the result of a scan done on a calf injury picked up by defender Declan John to see how long he will be sidelined for.

The defender picked up an injury in the warm-up ahead of Saturday's 2-0 loss on the road to Plymouth Argyle. He ended up watching the game from the sidelines at Home Park.

He was not involved for Wanderers as they beat Crewe Alex 4-1 in the Papa Johns Trophy last night. Wanderers took the lead early on through Amadou Bakayoko, but the Railwaymen drew level not long after through Courtney Baker-Richardson.

Wanderers went ahead after the break thanks to Dion Charles, before Kieran Sadlier added a third with a classy finish. Charles added his second and Bolton's fourth before the end to ensure a 4-1 win.

John has been for a scan on the calf problem, initially thought to be an Achilles issue, and Wanderers are waiting to learn its extent and how long he will be out of action for. Lloyd Isgrove was another absentee from the squad versus the Railwaymen.

Isgrove had been due to play a part but did not feature owing to a planter fascia issue similar to that recently suffered by captain Ricardo Santos. Evatt is optimistic the issue will settle down quickly and should be back in action soon.

On John, Evatt said: “We’re waiting for a result on his scan. He’s got a soleus calf injury, we don’t know how bad that is yet. We’ll wait for the report and then see the length of time he’ll be out for, but it’s not massively serious, we don’t think, but it’s enough to keep him out for a period of time.”

On Isgrove, Evatt continued: “He’s got what Rico had, a bit of plantar fascia issue. A fatpad on his heel that’s down to the hard ground and overuse since he’s come back really. That will settle really quickly but he just wasn’t ready for tonight.”
