Decathlon and Ballymun community participating in breaking world skipping record

The Ballymun community are working with Decathlon to break a world skipping record.

The sports shop has recently partnered with the Ballymun Health and Fitness Festival to help bring physical wellbeing to the forefront of the community.

The Ballymun Health and Fitness Festival was set up during the pandemic "as a community response to Covid-19".

They work to improve the physical, mental and spiritual health of people living in Ballymun.

They ran a number of events during Covid-19 including online classes and sessions in the park.

But now the group have launched an exciting calendar of events in the town following their partnership with Decthalon.

Dean Scurry, a member of the Ballymun Health and Fitness Festival, spoke to Dublin Live about what the group has planned over the coming months.

"He said: "So we're launching the Ballymun Decathlon Triathlon and the Dublin Soccer Skills Fest challenge.

"On May Bank Holiday Monday in Ballymun United, we're going to have about a thousand young people from the age of seven to 17 doing a soccer skills challenge, crossbar challenge and penalty kicks.

"There will also be an All-Ireland Freestyle Championship on that day.

"We're doing the running festival in Ballymun as well. That's been doing on for a number of years but we're going to make it a bit more energetic this year and get more people involved."

Dean spoke about how partnering with Decathlon has helped the group evolve.

"What we're trying to do with Decathlon, is expand on the brilliant work we're already doing in Ballymun," he explained.

"One way we're doing that is by breaking a world record. We're going to do a skipping world record in Ballymun. It will be happening in every Decathlon in the world.

"Decathlon is in Ballymun and they realised very quickly that there's only one Ballymun."

The Ballymun Health and Fitness Festival are appealing to the public to donate bikes for an event they have coming up.

Dean said: "We're looking for 100 bikes for a cycle festival that we're doing. So Decathlon bring leverage with that type of thing and also helps us put a microphone out to the community.

"So I'm asking you guys out there, I need 100 cycle bikes in Ballymun in the next couple of weeks. Get in touch with Ballymun Health and Fitness festival and donate them.

"No brutal bikes, only cracker bikes!."
