Deborah James reveals she 'stable' but 'grateful for every day' in emotional interview

Deborah James has opened up on her heartbreaking health journey on ITV's Lorraine.

The journalist and author has been battling breast cancer since 2016 and recently announced that her body 'isn't playing ball'.

She also discussed the difficult conversations with her children about death, but has not let the devastating diagnosis get the better of her.

Appearing on Thursday's show, Deborah addressed Lorraine and the rest of the team after they took part in the Race For Life on behalf of the 40-year-old.

The Record reports Deborah revealed she is living each day like a blessing and has already surpassed the amount of time doctors had given her.

Lorraine took to Instagram once the team had completed the course, and wrote: "@crukrace for life tonight! Can’t begin to tell you how much I love all of these fabulous women in my @lorraine team. Blessed to work with them - and all of us inspired by the force of nature that is @bowelbabe #friends #raceforlife."

Speaking on the ITV show, she added it was a "surprise" she was still alive but believes it's down to "having that sense of purpose".

Deborah said: "Hello Team Lorraine! Firstly congratulations on running Race For Life last night to celebrate life, to celebrate why we're all here and to raise vital funds. I am doing OK, I am stable and stable is a good thing. I'm taking life slowly.

"I'm not on social media too much and just spending time in the garden with my family, a much slower pace of life, which is not what I'm used to.

"Physically I'm quite tired but mentally I'm still a campaigner, still asking people to check their poo. I'm still on it about getting that messaging on loo roll across the country.

"The No Butts campaign - absolutely we want it spread far and wide. So a bit about Race For Life - let me tell you why it's so important.

"I've been an ambassador for them since 2019 - you can walk it, everybody can join in, your kids can be there, you can celebrate life, celebrate somebody else's life.

"But it is about having fun and that is why Race For Life is so important to me. Well done Team Lorraine for doing it last night and hello Lorraine!

"I think I'm taking life day by day, as I said at the beginning, I'm just continuing to feel blessed to have another day, knowing that my time is limited.

"But at the same time, truth be told, I've already outlived - yet again - what I was told when I was sent home from the hospital!

"Even I'm a bit surprised but I think it's having that sense of purpose, getting involved and continuing with the campaign."
