Deborah James' last picture on her Instagram as star dies aged 40 after cancer battle

The last picture Deborah James posted of herself on Instagram shows the mother-of-two beaming with pride as she raised £1m for a cancer charity.

The brave star passed away on Tuesday, aged 40, while surrounded by her beloved family and friends, with tributes pouring in.

The broadcaster leaves behind husband Sebastien and children Eloise, 12, and Hugo, 14.

The last recent picture Deborah posted of herself on her Instagram was of her with a giant cheque after her clothing collection raised £1m for Cancer Research UK.

The star smiled alongside an In The Style Boss, as she celebrated the achievement.

The post read: "WOW!! ONE MILLION POUNDS...I am honestly so overwhelmed we, through @inthestyle raised over £1,000,000 for @bowelbabefund for @cr_uk! All from sales of the ITS x Dame Deborah James collection and ‘Rebellious Hope’ T-shirts that I designed with @inthestyle. (One million, that’s just crazy)"

Deborah added that she was visited In The Style founder Adam Frisby and his partner, who she was pictured with, and they raised a toast to celebrate the achievement.

The post went on: "I just can’t believe it! What’s funny is when @inthestyle released the first t-shirt we both said how incredible £50k raised would be so for me to still be here and see it’s over £1mil is just so incredible!

‘Rebellious Hope’ is what has got me through the last few years and it’s what is keeping me going now! Seeing all your messages, tags and support has just been the best and I am so grateful that we have been able to do this together! Thank you all."

Deborah had been fighting stage 4 bowel cancer since December 2016 and had documented her fight on social media – having inspired millions of fans.

While the much-loved star had continued to maintain a positive outlook amid her cancer battle, the TV star took to social media in May to reveal that she no longer knew how long she had left as she opened up about her stage 4 cancer.

Deborah, who is behind the popular BBC podcast 'You, Me and the Big C', said that although she had been fighting her illness for five years, it was still not easy to accept and say goodbye.

In her final weeks, the mum-of-two revealed she was receiving end-of-life care at her home in Surrey.

She also had a private tour at the Chelsea Flower Show to see her rose, which The Harkness Rose Company named after her in tribute to the brave star in a 'lovely honour' which moved the dame to tears.

It came after she was honoured with a damehood by Prince William – just a few days after she revealed her cancer fight had taken a turn for the worse.

Dame Deborah told the BBC: "Flowers are a reminder of our future. We plant the seed not knowing what we might see grow.

"Being around nature gives us a lift and it is a reminder that life continues to blossom, even in some of the hardest places, and brings a smile to all of our faces, even in the hardest of times – particularly mine."
