Deaths of mother and two sons found in Canberra's Yerrabi Pond being treated as murder-suicide

ACT Policing has confirmed the deaths of two children and their mother at Yerrabi Pond in Gungahlin last weekend are being treated as a murder-suicide.

While the investigation is ongoing, police say they believe only the three deceased were involved.

The bodies of the woman and one of her two young sons were found in the water in Canberra's north on Saturday, November 5 after a member of the public alerted authorities.

After the discovery of the two on Saturday, police put out a call to the public seeking information about the woman's other son, who was missing.

A picture and description of eight-year-old Pranav Vivekanandan was released, along with an impassioned plea from his family for any information on his whereabouts.

Over 30 police officers and 50 SES personnel assisted in searching for the boy, both in and around the lake, with police divers brought in to search the water.

Pranav Vivekanandan's body was found in the water the next day, Sunday, November 6.

Police say the case remains in the early stages and detectives are continuing their investigations.

A coronial investigation into the causes of death will be made public only after the coronial investigation has been completed.

Harrison School, where the two boys were students, offered counselling to its students following the deaths.

The India Australia Association of Canberra (IAAC) has also organised a candlelight vigil and prayer meet to honour the mother and two young boys.

It is set to take place on Sunday evening at the Yerrabi Pond District Park where the bodies were found.

The IAAC thanked the Canberra community on Facebook for its support of the vigil, which they said had a high volume of replies when first announced.

"We appreciate the greater Canberra community's gracious assistance and unfailing cooperation in helping us honour the departed divine spirit," they said.

"In our memories, we thought of [them], we pray that [their] soul finds peace. With broken hearts and sadness in our souls. Rest in peace."
