A woman who disappeared nearly two years ago after suspected foul play involving a wheelie bin has been ruled to be dead, but from "undetermined" causes.

Retired teacher Lesley Trotter, 78, was reported missing from her home in the inner Brisbane suburb of Toowong on March 28, 2023.

Queensland Coroner Donald MacKenzie has now completed an investigation into the incident.

"The coronial investigation into the death of Ms Lesley Trotter is now finalised, with chamber findings provided to the family," a Coroners Court spokesperson said on Thursday.

"Coroner MacKenzie found that Ms Trotter is deceased but the cause of her death remains undetermined.

"No further information will be released at this time."

Ms Trotter's mobile phone and wallet were found in her unit and her car was still in the garage.

Queensland Police at the time believed Ms Trotter was killed the night she went missing and her remains were hidden in a wheelie bin.

The bin was compacted by rubbish collectors and sent to two massive landfill sites.

Police investigators and the Australian Defence Force sifted through more than 1000 tonnes of rubbish at the Swanbank tip near Ipswich, west of Brisbane in the following weeks.

Ms Trotter's body was not found after police dug under material dumped from more than 300 rubbish trucks and the search was suspended in May 2023.

Police also considered the possibility that Ms Trotter fell into a bin.

She was known to search through refuse, sorting through wheelie bins on the streets to remove recycling from general waste before collection.
