An inquest has been opened into the death of a 75-year-old man after an alleged street attack in Chilwell. Neil Robinson was reportedly assaulted in Ranson Road on December 16 last year.
He died six days later at the Queen's Medical Centre. James Gill, of Station Road, Arksey, Doncaster, was subsequently charged with manslaughter on January 6. The 39-year-old denied the charges at Nottingham Crown Court on February 4.
Opening an inquest into Mr Robinson's death at Nottingham Council House on Wednesday, April 20, assistant coroner Elizabeth Didcock said an initial post mortem exam had found he had died from a suspected head injury.

Mr Robinson was identified by his son Ben Robinson at a mortuary. "I express my condolences to the family of Mr Robinson," said Ms Didcock.
The inquest was adjourned to a date yet to be fixed. Meanwhile, Gill will appear in court for a hearing on May 20, before the trial begins in the week of June 13.
The death of Mr Robinson left the community of Chilwell "devastated" at the time, with many residents saying it was "shocking" to hear of in the area.
