A man has died in hospital after he was found lying on a road in Adelaide's inner south-western suburbs, with police saying the man was shot.
Police and paramedics were called to Dunorlan Road, Edwardstown just before 9:30pm on Sunday.
The 41-year-old man, of no fixed address, was rushed to the Flinders Medical Centre in a critical condition, but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Detective Inspector Martin McEachern said his death was being treated as a homicide.
He said a gun had not yet been found and police did not believe the incident was random.
"We suspect it's probably someone known to the victim, I can't go into details as to why we believe that, that's our suspicion at the moment," he said.
"Those inquiries are well and truly underway as we speak in relation to associates and people that are known to the deceased."
He said police seized a white Toyota Camry in a nearby street which they believed belonged to the victim.
It is being forensically tested.
"It is unusual for Adelaide for someone to be shot in a suburban street on a Sunday evening, and it's certainly of great concern to us and to the community," he said.
"[It's] something we want to get on top of quickly and identify the offenders."
Detective McEachern said the deceased was known to police.
He appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed a disturbance in the area or who may have any information connected to the incident to contact police.
Neighbour heard 'screams and a bang'
Cheryl McCall has been living on the street for about 10 years.
She said when she came home last night, she saw ambulance officers trying to revive the man.
"We pulled over because we couldn't get through and all we could see was a gentleman lying on his back trying to be revived by two ambulance people," she said.
"Then all of a sudden about four ambulances came in, seven cop cars, and the whole street was being completely blocked off."
Ms McCall said a neighbour had told her she had heard "screams and a bang", but did not know what the bang was.
"It's terrifying," she said.
