Death of man, 47, found with 'serious injuries' at home in Winlaton deemed to be 'non-suspicious'

The death of a man who was found with 'serious injuries' at a home in Gateshead has been deemed 'non suspicious'.

Emergency services were called to a property on Clavering Road in Winlaton at around 9.20am on Tuesday, May 17 following a report of "concern for a man". Inside, police found a 47-year-old man who was seriously injured and sadly died at the scene.

Following an extensive investigation by officers and the forensics team from Northumbria Police, there is not believed to have been any third party involvement. The man's death has now been passed on to the coroner and has been deemed to be a non-suspicious death.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “An investigation was carried out but there is not believed to have been any third party involvement and a report will be prepared for the coroner. "

A police cordon was put in place on a section of Clavering Road and the back lane behind it during the day on Tuesday and Wednesday as police and forensic teams entered the property.

Neighbours on Clavering Road spoke of their shock at seeing a heavy police in the area following the incident.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "When I came back from work at 1pm the police were here along with two ambulances, a paramedic's car, and a fire engine. It is weird to see something going on like that on your door step."

Another resident who also wanted to remain anonymous, said: "I saw police cars on Clavering Road at around 3.30am. They left and then came back again at around 9am."

Another resident said: "I don't know what is going on. I had been out all day and come back to see the police cordon on the street. It is a shock."
