Death of Glasgow punk legend 'untimely and devastating' as pals vow to carry on his memory

Tributes have been paid to a man described as a Glasgow 'punk legend' who sadly passed away last week.

Paul 'Harvey' McGurn was a well-known face on the punk scene having been the lead singer for bands including Last Rites, The Disturbed, and Bonejack.

The musician's death has been described as 'untimely and devastating' by his close friends who have now begun raising money to keep his memory alive.

In a tribute to the Celtic fan, they said: "He was a legend in our community and that deserves to be recognised for future events, his influence was nationwide and there are those whose life was and still is impacted by him wish to celebrate him and keep him in our hearts in the future.

"The two key areas are to raise funds to donate to the magnificent charity GEAPP that helped Harvey with his personal life, that as well as organising future events to honour a giant of a man whose personality was just simply amazing.

"All that met him do not need a description of who and how he was. While we all take the time to grieve and reflect on our punk father, we wish to carry him with us in the future music events in his memory, if Harvey touched your life, let's celebrate that and keep him alive in our hearts at the gigs he so dearly loved singing at and attending."

Nearly £1,300 has been raised in Paul's memory with dozens of people posting tribute to self-confessed family man.

Punk band Disaffect posted: "Totally devastated to hear of the passing of Paul Harvey McGurn. The undisputed funniest guy in punk rock. Great frontman, great storyteller, but most importantly a dear friend. RIP big man."

Another friend wrote: "Paul Harvey McGurn your name is now in lights and your memory will never diminish.

"Punk has lost one of the best among us. But his family have lost so much more that can never be replaced."

Another added: "Still can't believe that my big pal and all round punk legend Paul McGurn has passed away..he deffo was an absolute hero of mine, he was always great to us wee punks at the early Last rites gigs in Easterhouse and surrounding scary places lol. I was lucky enough to share a stage with him a few times and shared many a bottle of the tonic with him too."

One person wrote: "Absolutely terrible news Paul McGurn Harvey has passed away legend in the punk scene."
